CHARACTERSFighter
The fighter is a fighting machine (hence the name "Fighter"). He has the most HP out of any class and the ability to wear all the best armour lets him keep that HP fo a very long time. The fighter also has access to most of the weapons in the game; his offensive power is matched by no other class. However all of these bonuses are gained only with the right equipment, and the best equipment is quite expensive. The fighter is the most expensive class to buy weapons and amour for, but this is only really a problem early on in the game. Knight
The Knight has all the skills of the fighter and more. He has access to every piece of armour in the game, with the exception of only a few. He also is the only character who can equip the mighty Xcalber, the second best sword in the game. At high levels with a good suit of armour and the right weapon, the Knight is a one man army and is nearly invincible. In addition to his physical strengths, the Knight has the ability to learn some White magic spells, effectivly adding a low level healer to your party. The Knight is an indespensible member of any party. Black Belt
The Black Belt is a pure fighter. Shunning the use of magic, the Black Belt relies entirely on physical strength in battle. Although not able to equip many weapons, the Black Belt's most powerful weapon is his fists; as he progresses in levels, the Black Belt can hit faster and harder with his bare hands than the fighter can with the best of his weapons. Because he requires little equipment, the Black Belt is also quite cheap to equip, and his excess armour and weapon slots can be used to store excess weapons and armour for other characters. The Black Belt's weakness lies in his inability to use magic; however, with proper support from a White Mage, the Black Belt is an extremley effective fighter. Master
Having mastered the martial arts, the Master is easily the strongest fighter in the game. Using his bare hands, the Master can single-handedly dispatch even the strongest opponent qucikly and efficiently. Although he is still unable to use magic, the Master makes up for it in battle with brute force. With some means of being healed, the Master is a walking death machine. Theif
The Theif lacks the strength of the Black Belt or Fighter, and he lacks the skills of the Mages. However, the Theif has strengths of his own, namely his speed and agility. The Theif's high agility enables him to effectivly dodge attacks, and to escape from battles with ease. In situations where running is the best option the Thief is the best character to have. The Thief is also rather inexpensive to equip; money saved on the Theif and invested in other party members, will enable your party to advance quickly through the game. Although not as good as the Fighter or Black Belt, the Theif can hold his own in battle when he needs to. All in all, the Theif can be a good substitute for another fighting class. Ninja
The Thief undergoes a complete transformation when he becomes the Ninja. The Ninja's offensive power is far greater than the Thief's could ever be; the Ninja has access to every weapon in the game, with the exception of a few. The Ninja is the only character who can use the Katana blade, a formidable weapon. In addition to this, the Ninja gains some black magic, effectively adding a low level Black Mage to your party. The Ninja's selection in armor is also broadened somewhat after Class Change. With his speed and agility, and armed with a good weapon and his Black Magic, the Ninja easily matches the other fighting classes in terms of skill in battle. Red Mage
The Red Mage is the most well-rounded character in the game. He has access to the magic abilities of the White and Black Mages, and he can equip many weapons and armor not available to the Mages, making him strong in some regards as a Fighter. Red Wizard
The Red Wizard takes the strengths of the Red Mage one step further. He is now able to use many more powerful weapons and armor, as well as a broadened range of both White and Black magic spells. The Red Wizard combines magic and physical strength to become a well-rounded strong fighter. The Red Wizard's disadvantage, however, lies in his inability to learn most 7th Level spells, and his inability to learn 8th Level spells altogether. Moreover, while he can equip a broad range of weapons and armor, he is still not as strong a fighter as a Knight or Master. Despite this, the Red Wizard's broad range of skills makes him a force to be reckoned with. White Mage
The White Mage's main purpose is to heal her comrades. She lacks physical strength, being able only to equip Hammers, and will not be an effective fighter until late in the game. Likewise, the inability to use armor other than Bracelets and some minor accessories make her very vulnerable to attack. In spite of her weaknesses, however, the White Mage is indispensible in her unique power to heal and protect her allies. Even the strongest fighter will not succeed if he is weak or dead; the White Mage's job is to keep the fighters alive long enough to do their job, and this she does with more skill than any other class. Another strength of the White Mage is her strength against Undead. Using the powerful HARM magics, the White Mage can dispatch the many undead throughout the game quickly and easily. Although the White Mage's spells will be quite expensive in the beginning of the game, they are well worth the investment, and she makes up for it somewhat in that she doesn't need expensive weapons or armor. White Wizard
Having mastered the healing arts, the White Wizard's healing magic is second to none. The White Wizard has access to all White Magic spells, including powerful 8th Level spells that no other class can use. Spells like LIF2, which brings a comrade back to life with full HP, is indispensible when fighting the powerful foes near the end of the game. Likewise, her powerful protective magics will help her comrades to survive where otherwise they would have surely fallen. Although she is still not much of a fighter, the White Wizard is a great addition to any party. Black Mage
The Black Mage is the weakest character, physically speaking. Weak and frail, the Black Mage has very low HP and is of almost no use as a physical fighter. However, his strength comes from his unique skill in wielding offensive magics. The Black Mage's use of Black Magic is matched by no other class; using powerful spells that damage all foes at once, or obliterate enemies entirely regardless of their HP, the Black Mage can in many cases cause more damage to an enemy than an entire party full of fighters! From a safe place in the back of the party, away from danger, the Black Mage can deal death to the enemy from a distance, quickly and efficiently. Black Wizard
A master in the arts of offensive magic, the Black Wizard possesses strength to rival that of any fighter. The Black Wizard's use of Black Magic is matched by no other class; he alone has access to the powerful 8th Level spells. Able to wipe out large groups of enemies with one well-placed spell, the Black Wizard is a force to be reckoned with. In addition to his magical strength, the Black Wizard is able to equip the CatClaw, a powerful knife that greatly increases his physical prowess in battle He will almost never need to resort to using it, though, for the Black Wizard has almost inexhaustible use of powerful spells that far exceed both his physical strength and often times, that of his fighter comrades. The Black Wizard make a powerful addition to any party. |
